Our school sports teams are known as the Big Valley Bulldogs.  Although we have a reasonably small number of students in our school, we have a very high participation rate when it comes to extra-curricular athletics. Because of this, we have a wide variety of sports teams.

As a school we believe that all students who are interested should have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities.  We also believe that sportsmanship and team work are the fundamental skills we want our students to learn from participation in athletics.

Big Valley School is an active participant in the Clearview And Region Athletics (CARA) association. Other member schools include those in the Clearview School Division as well as Theresetta (Castor) and Mother Teresa (Halkirk) Catholic Schools.  The CARA organization was created to provide interschool competitions in a variety of different sports. These include:  orienteering (September), cross-country running (October), volleyball (November), curling (February), basketball (March), badminton (April), soccer (May), and track and field (June). CARA member schools may also compete at a larger level within the Central Western Alberta Junior High Athletic Association (CWAJHAA) in cross-country running, volleyball, basketball and badminton.

Big Valley School athletes compete in tournaments, meets and competitions outside of CARA and CWAJHAA throughout

the year. Our schools teams are coached by volunteers from within our school and community.

Big Valley School also offers intramural competitions throughout the school year for students in grades five through nine. It is a non-compulsory program that runs during noon recesses throughout the year. Intramural activities may include:  cross-country running, 3 on 3 volleyball, flag football, 3 on 3 basketball, soccer, leg and arm wrestling, and floor hockey. All activities end with a fun staff vs. student challenge.

A trackmeet is usually held for the grades 1 -3 students from our school  in June.
